Why is Planting Trees the Answer to Climate Change?
Deforestation causes CO2 buildup.
When forests are cut down, not only does carbon absorption cease, but the carbon stored in trees is released into the atmosphere as CO2 (whether the wood is burned or left to rot). If this pace of deforestation continues, and we kill off the main combatant to this CO2 buildup, we can expect the climate of our planet to keep changing dramatically.
Temperatures have already risen.
9 of out of 10 of the warmest years on record have occurred since 2000. Reforestation is one of our best bets to combating this steady rise in global temperatures, which is already causing changes in ecosystems and sea levels.
