The Iracambi Project

It all started in 1987 when the Le Breton family, then living in Recife, came by car to visit Minas Gerais and bought an abandoned farm in the Graminha valley. In 1999, Iracambi Private Forest Reserve created, the second oldest in the Zona da Mata region. Iracambi hosts a visit from the Partners of the Americas, to help set up the NGO. Amigos de Iracambi NGO is established, to research the processes of forest degradation and restoration, economic alternatives to deforestation, and best practice management of forested and deforested lands.
